Yes, you can definitely put your own music on a vinyl record. Many companies specialize in custom vinyl record production, allowing musicians, bands, and creators to press their original tracks onto vinyl. Here’s how you can do it:
This process allows you to create a tangible, analog version of your music, which can be a unique addition to your merchandise, a special gift, or a personal keepsake.
Pressing a run of 100 or more vinyl records involves several steps and specific requirements to ensure the process is successful and yields high-quality results. Here’s what you’ll need:
By following these steps and working with a reputable pressing plant, you can successfully press a run of 100 or more records, creating a professional and tangible product to share with your audience.
The cost of pressing a run of 100 or more vinyl records typically ranges between $1,000 and $2,500, depending on several factors. First, you’ll need to budget for mastering, which ensures your audio is optimized for vinyl playback and can cost between $100 and $500. Next, lacquer cutting and test pressing add another $400 to $900 to the total, including the cost of cutting the master lacquer and producing a small batch of test pressings to verify the sound quality. The actual pressing of the vinyl records generally costs between $7 and $15 per unit, which can vary based on factors like the type of vinyl, custom colors, and the complexity of the packaging. Additional costs for custom artwork, packaging, and any extra features can also influence the final price. Overall, it's important to account for these various elements to get a precise estimate based on your specific needs and preferences.
Printing a single copy of a vinyl record, also known as a "one-off" or "lathe-cut" record, involves a different process than mass production. Here’s what is typically required:
Creating a single custom lathe-cut vinyl record typically costs between $50 and $200. The price can vary depending on several factors, including the length of the audio, the quality of the vinyl, and any additional customizations like colored vinyl or special packaging.
The production time for a single lathe-cut record usually ranges from a few days to a week. This timeline includes the time needed for cutting the record, assembling any custom labels and packaging, and shipping. If you opt for additional services like professional artwork design or expedited production, it could potentially affect both the cost and turnaround time.
Overall, while the cost per unit is higher for a one-off record compared to mass production, the process is relatively quick and allows for a high degree of customization.
By working with a lathe-cutting service, you can create a unique, one-of-a-kind vinyl record that perfectly fits your personal or creative needs.

Losing a loved one is one of life’s most profound and emotional experiences. As we seek ways to honor their legacy, finding a tribute that feels personal and meaningful can be challenging. While flowers, framed photos, and memorial services offer traditional avenues of remembrance, there’s something especially enduring and intimate about capturing memories in sound. With Freestyle Vinyl, families and friends are discovering a new, heartfelt way to preserve the essence of a life well lived: custom vinyl records.
Whether it’s a collection of a loved one’s favorite songs, recordings of their voice, or heartfelt messages shared by those left behind, a memorial vinyl record becomes a unique and treasured heirloom. It offers the healing power of music paired with the physical presence of an analog format that can be held, played, and passed down through generations. In a world flooded with fleeting digital content, vinyl provides a way to slow down and remember—to listen, reflect, and celebrate a life in a way that feels tangible and true.
A Personalized Gift of Sound
When looking for personalized remembrance gifts, most people turn to photo books, keepsake jewelry, or memory boxes. These items are meaningful, but few can recreate the emotional connection evoked by sound. The gentle voice of a grandparent telling a story. A parent’s favorite song that always played on Sunday mornings. The laughter of siblings captured in a spontaneous voice memo. With Freestyle Vinyl, these audio moments become part of a lasting tribute.
Creating a memorial vinyl record through Freestyle Vinyl is more than a transaction—it’s a process of healing. Compiling audio clips, gathering songs that reflect the person’s spirit, and even recording personal messages can be an emotional but rewarding journey for those involved. And the end result? A keepsake unlike any other.

This personalized curation allows each record to become a truly one-of-a-kind creation. The final product is both a tribute and a time capsule.
A Tangible Connection in a Digital World
Many people find comfort in being able to hold onto something physical when mourning. That’s one reason why vinyl is so powerful. The act of placing the record on a turntable, lowering the needle, and hearing a familiar voice or song offers a ritual that can be comforting during the grieving process.
Freestyle Vinyl helps families bring this idea to life with precision and care. All of our 12 inch, 10 inch, and 7 inch memorial vinyl records are handcrafted and pressed in the USA. Clients can select the color of the vinyl, choose personalized artwork for the jacket, and create a liner with lyrics, names, dates, or photographs.
This attention to detail means every memorial record is more than a product—it’s an artifact of memory and legacy.
Inspiring Tribute Album Ideas
Not sure where to begin? Here are a few thematic concepts that families and friends have used as the foundation for their tribute records:

Why Vinyl? The Healing Power of Music
Music has long been used as a tool for healing. It can reduce stress, alleviate anxiety, and help express emotions that words alone cannot. When paired with memory, music becomes even more powerful.
A song can transport you to a specific moment in time. A recording of a voice can reignite long-forgotten feelings. A custom vinyl record brings those two elements together in an emotionally rich, resonant format.
For many families, creating a memorial vinyl record becomes part of the grieving process. It’s a way to honor, remember, and begin to heal.

More Than Just a Gift: A Shared Experience
One of the most beautiful aspects of giving a graduation vinyl record is the experience it creates—not just for the graduate, but for everyone involved in making it. Gathering voice memos, curating playlists, and designing the jacket often becomes a family or community effort. Parents, siblings, friends, and even mentors can contribute their thoughts, stories, and favorite tracks. This collaboration becomes a touching tribute that the graduate will cherish forever.
The act of sharing these moments—recording them, listening to them, revisiting them—fosters a deeper connection between giver and receiver. It's a way of saying, "We see you. We celebrate you. We believe in you." That’s what sets a custom graduation record apart from other gifts.
Vinyl's Lasting Power in a Fast-Paced World
We live in a world of instant gratification and digital overload. But vinyl invites us to slow down. It requires attention, interaction, and care. For a graduate stepping into a fast-paced future, a vinyl record is a reminder that some things are worth preserving the old-fashioned way.
A graduation vinyl record from Freestyle Vinyl becomes a marker of legacy, not just memory. It can be played during future celebrations, displayed on a shelf as a symbol of success, and passed down as a family heirloom. It is both a snapshot in time and a timeless artifact.
Final Thoughts: Give the Gift of Legacy
Graduation is a bridge from one chapter to the next. As friends and family, we want to give gifts that are not just meaningful in the moment, but that will be cherished for a lifetime. Celebrate the Class of 2025 with music, memories, and meaning—pressed in vinyl.
Content creators are building communities that extend far beyond traditional media. Podcasts, YouTube channels, live streams, online courses, and independent publications have transformed how creators connect with their audiences.
As those communities grow, many creators are looking for new ways to strengthen those relationships through exclusive merchandise, collectible products, and memorable fan experiences.
That's where custom vinyl records offer something different.
A personalized record transforms digital content into a physical, collectible experience that fans can hold, display, and enjoy long after an episode, video, or livestream has ended.
Let’s face it—there’s something inherently special about vinyl. It’s tangible, nostalgic, and instantly collectible. Unlike a YouTube link or a Spotify playlist, a custom vinyl record feels like a work of art. It gives your fans a physical piece of your creative world, one they can hold, display, and treasure.
Custom vinyl is more than just retro cool—it’s a storytelling tool. And for podcasters especially, the idea of a vinyl podcast isn’t as far-fetched as it may seem. Think of it as your greatest hits, recorded and pressed for eternity.
Podcasting has become one of the most powerful ways for creators to build loyal, engaged communities. Unlike traditional media, podcasts create long-form conversations that listeners often follow for years. That connection creates a unique opportunity: transforming digital episodes into physical collectibles.
Custom vinyl for podcasters offers a completely different way to preserve and share content. Instead of limiting episodes to a streaming platform, creators can turn milestone moments into a tangible product that listeners can display, collect, and revisit.
Popular podcast vinyl projects may include:
A custom podcast vinyl release can also become premium merchandise for subscribers, Patreon supporters, or members who want something more meaningful than traditional branded products.
For creators looking to strengthen their relationship with their audience, few merchandise ideas are as memorable as a personalized vinyl record featuring the content that helped build their community.
Every creator eventually asks the same question:
"How can I offer something my audience can't find anywhere else?"
Traditional merchandise still has value, but many creators are looking beyond T-shirts, mugs, and stickers for products that create a stronger emotional connection.
This is where vinyl merchandise for creators stands apart.
Because every record can be produced individually, creators can develop limited-edition products that feel exclusive and highly personal. A carefully curated record immediately becomes more than merchandise. It becomes a collectible.
Ideas for exclusive creator merchandise include:
Unlike digital downloads, physical records create a sense of ownership and permanence. Fans aren't simply consuming content. They're collecting a piece of the creator's story.
For creators searching for new creator merchandise ideas, a custom vinyl release offers an opportunity to create something distinctive while strengthening audience loyalty.
Not every creator produces traditional music, but nearly every creator curates audio.
Whether it's a collection of songs featured in YouTube videos, a playlist shared with subscribers, or a soundtrack associated with a specific project, playlists often become part of a creator's identity.
Turning those playlists into a physical record creates a completely new experience.
Many creators use personalized vinyl records for creators to preserve seasonal or community-created playlists, video soundtracks, production music collections, favorite episode selections, and all sorts of collaborative projects.
Unlike a digital playlist that can be edited or forgotten, a vinyl record encourages intentional listening from beginning to end. And for creators who have spent years developing a recognizable style, transforming those playlists into a custom record can create a lasting connection between the creator, the content, and the audience.
Every creator reaches defining moments.
The first viral video.
The 100th podcast episode.
A major subscriber milestone.
An award.
An anniversary.
These achievements deserve more than a social media post.
Many creators are now using custom vinyl records for content creators to commemorate the moments that shaped their careers. By combining meaningful audio with personalized artwork and packaging, a custom record transforms an accomplishment into something that can be preserved for years.
Popular milestone projects include:
Because every record is produced individually, creators have complete control over the music, artwork, labels, and presentation.
The result is a keepsake that captures a specific moment in time while celebrating the growth of a creative community.
Successful creators understand that branding extends far beyond logos and social media graphics.
Every visual element contributes to how an audience perceives a creator's identity.
A custom vinyl record for creators offers an opportunity to reinforce that identity through music, artwork, and presentation.
Many creators customize album artwork (both jacket and center labels), the vinyl color, and personalized add-ons exclusively available at Freestyle Vinyl.
For podcasters, a record cover might feature artwork associated with a signature series.
For YouTubers, a custom sleeve might incorporate recognizable channel branding.
For musicians and streamers, colored vinyl can reinforce an established visual style.
Many creators also choose custom vinyl record jackets to create a finished product that looks as professional as any commercially released album.
These details don't simply improve the appearance of the record. They strengthen brand recognition and create a product that audiences immediately associate with a specific creator.
Not every creator project requires the same format.
A podcaster producing an anniversary collection has very different needs than a YouTuber creating a limited-edition merchandise release. Likewise, a streamer commemorating a major milestone may prioritize visual presentation, while another creator may need additional audio capacity.
Choosing the right format depends on three factors:
Some creators prioritize collectibility and display value. Others focus on playback time and listening quality.
Whether you're creating custom vinyl for podcasters, producing exclusive merchandise for subscribers, or exploring new creator merchandise ideas, the comparison below can help you determine which format best aligns with your goals.
|
Record Format |
Best for Content Creators |
|
Promotional releases, shorter audio, subscriber gifts, milestone moments |
|
|
Visual branding, photography, artwork, commemorative merchandise |
|
|
Podcasts, playlists, interviews, long-form content, anniversary collections |
|
|
Extended audio, complete archives, live events, multi-episode collections |
While every format offers unique advantages, 12-inch custom vinyl records remain the most versatile option for creators. Their larger size provides more playing time while creating additional opportunities for custom artwork and premium packaging.
For creators producing podcasts, long-form interviews, curated playlists, or extended audio projects, the traditional LP format often provides the best balance between functionality, presentation, and audience appeal.
When it comes to celebrating athletic achievements, few things are as timeless and meaningful as a personalized keepsake. Trophies collect dust, game footage gets buried in old drives, and signed balls end up in display cases. But imagine preserving the sound of your team’s journey—its highs, its heart, and its hustle—on a custom vinyl record. That’s where Freestyle Vinyl steps in. With the ability to press team anthems, post-game speeches, and personal messages onto high-quality records, Freestyle Vinyl offers the ultimate in personalized sports gifts.
Whether you’re a coach looking to motivate your players, a parent wanting to surprise your child with something unforgettable, or a team captain hoping to honor a special season, a custom team vinyl record captures the spirit of your squad like nothing else.
We all know how a powerful locker room speech can fire up a team. Now, imagine bottling that moment of motivation and replaying it again and again. With Freestyle Vinyl, coaches and players can preserve those defining moments in sound: championship celebrations, words of encouragement, pre-game rituals, or even team chants that echo through the stadium.
This is more than nostalgia—it’s about building a legacy. A custom vinyl record turns fleeting moments into lasting memories and creates a powerful emotional experience that can be shared by the entire team for years to come.
End-of-season banquets and award ceremonies are a natural time for reflection and celebration. Instead of the usual plaque or framed photo, why not present your team with something truly unique? A custom team vinyl record can include:
It's the kind of gift that players will keep, cherish, and play back long after the season ends. For coaches, it's a way to show appreciation and preserve the legacy of their leadership.
There are countless sports team gifts out there, but few carry the emotional weight and lasting appeal of a vinyl record. These custom records can be tailored to any sport, age group, or level of play—from pee-wee leagues to varsity champions and adult rec teams.
Parents can create a surprise gift for their child after a milestone season. Teammates can pool together to give their coach a thank-you record featuring heartfelt messages. Alumni can even create tribute albums to commemorate championship runs or legendary rivalries.
Each vinyl is made-to-order and can include a completely custom track list and cover design. It’s more than a gift; it’s a celebration in physical form.
Coaches put in long hours—not just on the field, but behind the scenes. They mentor, motivate, and lead with passion. When it comes time to thank them, your gift should reflect that level of dedication. Freestyle Vinyl offers one of the most meaningful coach gift ideas available: a vinyl picture record filled with appreciation.
Include:
This kind of gift goes beyond a gesture—it becomes a keepsake that honors the coach’s legacy and impact.
You don’t need to be a sound engineer or designer to create an incredible vinyl record. Freestyle Vinyl’s team makes it easy:
Need help recording messages? Freestyle Vinyl offers guidance on how to capture great audio with just your phone. The process is streamlined and stress-free—ideal for busy coaches, parents, or team captains.
Part of what makes Freestyle Vinyl special is the attention to visual design. The record jacket isn’t just packaging—it’s a reflection of your team’s identity. Incorporate:
This personalization turns your vinyl into a commemorative piece worthy of display in a locker room, office, or home.

Bringing Poetry and Spoken Word to Life on Vinyl
In a world saturated with fleeting digital media, vinyl records offer something refreshingly timeless. The warm crackle of a needle dropping, the tactile sensation of holding a physical record, and the immersive ritual of listening from start to finish create an experience that simply can’t be replicated by a stream. For poets and spoken word artists, this analog medium offers a unique opportunity to immortalize their performances in a tangible, lasting format. Freestyle Vinyl is at the forefront of helping writers do just that—bringing poetry on vinyl to life in a way that captures both the voice and the soul behind the words.
Whether you're a seasoned poet, an emerging spoken word performer, or an author looking to preserve your words in a new medium, Freestyle Vinyl offers the tools and expertise to turn your literary art into a collectible keepsake. With personalized recording options, high-quality mastering, and custom artwork, the result isn’t just a record—it’s a living, breathing extension of your creativity.
The Power of Analog Storytelling
Poetry has always been about rhythm, tone, and the weight of every syllable. Vinyl, with its organic sound quality, amplifies these nuances like no other medium. Capturing poetry on vinyl adds an intimacy to your performance, preserving vocal inflections, pauses, and breathwork that often get lost in the cold precision of digital recordings.
This format also honors the historical connection between poetry and music. From beat poets performing over jazz rhythms to contemporary spoken word backed by ambient soundscapes, the vinyl experience creates a bridge between text and tone, offering listeners a deeply emotional and immersive connection.
Recording Tips for Spoken Word Artists
To ensure your custom 7-inch vinyl record, 10-inch picture record, or 12-inch poetry vinyl record sounds as powerful as your live performance, attention to audio quality is key. Here are a few tips from the pros:
Freestyle Vinyl can also help with mastering your audio to ensure that the final record has balanced volume levels and rich tone throughout.
Custom Artwork that Speaks Volumes
When creating poetry and spoken word vinyl, the visual presentation is just as important as the audio. Freestyle Vinyl offers fully customizable cover design, allowing poets to feature original photography, handwritten text, or symbolic illustrations that reflect the themes of their work.
The jacket becomes a canvas for further expression—a chance to give your listeners a glimpse into your creative process before they even drop the needle. Whether you prefer a minimalist design or bold, vivid imagery, your vinyl packaging can help tell the story of your work from the outside in.
Unique and Thoughtful Gift Ideas
A custom poetry vinyl record isn’t just a keepsake for the artist—it makes for a truly personal gift. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, memorializing a special moment, or simply sharing your words with someone you love, Freestyle Vinyl makes it easy to create custom poetry gifts that resonate deeply.
You might record a wedding vow, a lullaby, a tribute to a lost loved one, or a curated collection of your best performances. Add personal artwork and a heartfelt note inside the jacket, and your poetry vinyl becomes an unforgettable memento.
Preserving the Art of the Spoken Word
At its core, Freestyle Vinyl supports artists who believe in the power of their voice. Poetry and spoken word vinyl records represent a revival of performance-based literature, elevating it from temporary live events to cherished physical artifacts. Whether you're building a personal archive or sharing your art with the world, recording your voice on vinyl ensures your words live on.
Freestyle Vinyl brings the entire process together—from the moment your words are recorded to the final product arriving in your hands. Their team of audio engineers and designers work with you to make every detail count.
Final Thoughts
Creating poetry on vinyl is more than just a nostalgic throwback—it’s a powerful way to give permanence to performance. With Freestyle Vinyl as your partner, your literary voice can echo for years to come, etched into grooves that hold not just sound, but soul. Whether it’s a gift, a personal milestone, or a piece of your artistic legacy, your words deserve to live on vinyl.
Creating a custom vinyl record is about more than just putting music onto a physical disc. The artwork is what can turn a collection of songs, a favorite playlist, or a meaningful recording into something that looks and feels like a finished album.
Your custom vinyl record artwork might be a favorite photograph, an original illustration, a collage of memories, your band's album design, or something as simple as a title and a few carefully chosen words. You can create a personalized vinyl record cover for a wedding, anniversary, birthday, memorial, music release, DJ project, or simply as a one-of-a-kind keepsake.
And the artwork doesn't have to stop at the jacket. Depending on the format you choose, you can also customize the center labels or, with a 10-inch picture disc, use artwork across the record itself.
This guide explains the different artwork options available for a custom vinyl record, how to approach your design, and what to consider before submitting your files.
Before designing your album artwork, it helps to understand the different parts of the finished record that can carry your design.
At Freestyle Vinyl, there are several ways to personalize the visual presentation of your record.
The custom vinyl record jacket is usually the largest and most prominent piece of artwork accompanying your Freestyle Vinyl.
For a custom jacket, you can provide your own photo files, artwork, text, or complete album design. Your submitted artwork becomes the visual identity of the finished record.
A custom jacket can be used for everything from a traditional album cover to a wedding photo, family collage, original artwork, or personalized record cover designed specifically for the recipient.
You can also choose a simpler approach. Depending on the product, you may choose a plain white jacket or a preset jacket design rather than creating your own artwork. These options may allow you to draw, write, and otherwise mark-up the record jacket on your own once you receive it.
All of these options mean that you don't need to be a professional graphic designer to create a great-looking record. A favorite photograph and a simple concept can be enough.
For 12-inch and 7-inch records, you can also provide your own custom center-label artwork.
The center label is the circular label applied to the middle of the record. It can reinforce the design of your jacket or provide an entirely different visual element.
For example, your custom record label might include the artist or recipient's name, a unique album title, a wedding or birthday date, a logo, a photograph, track list information, or personal illustrations.
Freestyle Vinyl's standard labels include our logo and your track information, but you can submit your own custom center-label artwork instead. Your center label is 3 ½” inches in diameter, and we recommend text or graphics should be kept at least ¼” away from the edge to account for printing ‘bleed.’
A 10-inch picture disc works differently.
Rather than having a separate center label, the artwork is incorporated into the picture disc itself. That means your image becomes part of the physical record and is visible across the face of the disc.
This makes a 10-inch picture disc particularly interesting when the visual design is of great importance to your project.
A photograph, illustration, artwork, logo, or other strong visual can become the centerpiece of the record, on large-format display whenever the record plays.
You don't need an elaborate design concept to create a compelling custom vinyl record cover. The best approach is usually to start with the purpose of the record and let that determine the visual direction.
Ask yourself:
Who is this record for? What does the music represent? What memory, event, person, or idea should the artwork communicate?
Once you have that answer, you can build the artwork around it.
One of the easiest ways to create a personalized vinyl record cover is to start with a photograph.
Consider using:
A single strong photograph can make an excellent album cover without requiring extensive graphic design.
You can add an album title, date, artist name, or short message to turn the photograph into a finished custom album cover.
Another approach is to treat your custom vinyl record as though it were an album that was actually released by a recording artist.
Think about the visual elements you'd expect to see on a traditional vinyl album:
This approach can work particularly well when you're putting original music, a mixtape, or a curated playlist onto vinyl.
Your record doesn't have to imitate an existing album. Instead, think about creating a visual identity that makes your music feel like a cohesive custom record album.
A collage can be a great choice when one photograph doesn't tell the whole story.
You might combine photographs, handwritten notes, tickets to shows you’ve attended, illustrations, important dates, quotes, and important locations.
A wedding record, for example, could combine photographs from the couple's relationship with their wedding date and the track list from their reception playlist.
The result isn't simply a custom vinyl record cover. It becomes part of the story behind the record.
You don't need to fill every inch of your jacket with artwork.
A minimalist design can be just as effective:
ARTIST NAME
ALBUM TITLE
followed by a single photograph, illustration, or graphic.
Strong typography, generous empty space, and one compelling image can create a polished album-cover design without making the artwork feel busy.
The best artwork depends heavily on why you're making the record.
Use wedding photographs, engagement photos, meaningful dates, handwritten messages, or imagery associated with the couple.
A wedding playlist can become a physical personalized record that documents the relationship and the event.
If you're putting your own music onto vinyl, treat the jacket as an extension of your artistic identity.
Use photography, illustration, typography, or an existing album-art concept to create something that looks like a genuine artist release.
For a DJ record, artwork can reinforce the DJ's identity through:
The same principle applies to a mixtape-style record: make the jacket feel like the visual counterpart to the music.
A collection of songs can become a much more meaningful keepsake when the jacket incorporates photographs and personal memories.
This works especially well for milestone birthdays, anniversaries, family gifts, and other occasions where the record is intended to preserve a moment in time.
Custom vinyl can also be used to commemorate someone who has passed away.
Photographs, meaningful dates, favorite quotes, and personal imagery can transform the record jacket into part of the memorial itself.
Your design approach should also take the size and type of record into account.
The 12-inch format gives you the largest traditional canvas for custom album artwork.
A 12-inch record can accommodate large-format custom jacket artwork and custom center labels. In the 12-inch size, you also have the option to create a gatefold jacket, which can hold either 1 or 2 records and provides even greater opportunity to customize the jacket with a large 25-inch long inner jacket space!
Because the jacket is physically large, photographs and detailed designs can have a particularly strong visual impact.
Freestyle Vinyl's 12-inch custom records are designed for up to 22 minutes of audio per side and offer full-size album artwork and custom jacket options.

A 7-inch record gives you a smaller physical canvas, but that can actually make a strong, simple design particularly effective.
Consider:
You can also provide custom center-label artwork for a 7-inch record.

A 10-inch picture disc provides a completely different design opportunity because the record itself becomes the artwork.
Instead of thinking primarily about a jacket and center label, think about how your image will look when displayed as a circular record.
Strong photographs, illustrations, patterns, logos, and other high-impact images can work particularly well here.

If you're creating a 12-inch or 7-inch record, the center label is a small but important part of the overall album design.
You can use it to reinforce the jacket artwork or deliberately create contrast.
For example, imagine a wedding record with:
Front jacket:
A photograph of the couple
Center label:
Their names + wedding date
Back jacket:
The complete wedding playlist
That creates a much more cohesive finished product than treating the label as an afterthought.
You can also create different label artwork for Side A and Side B.
A design that looks great on a computer screen isn't necessarily going to look great when printed as a physical record jacket.
Here are several things to consider.
Start with the highest-resolution image you have available.
Freestyle Vinyl requires jacket photos to be at least 1,000 pixels tall and wide and recommends at least 3,000 pixels tall and wide for maximum clarity. JPG/JPEG and PNG files are accepted, while files such as PDF and AI are not accepted through the jacket upload system.
Don't rely on a tiny image downloaded from social media if you have access to the original photograph.
Your artwork may be subject to some bleed / wrapping during printing.
We recommend on almost any artwork piece to keep any important text and graphics at least ¼ inch from the edge.
That means your album title, names, dates, and other information shouldn't sit right against the edge of the design.
Subtle details in very dark portions of an image can be lost during printing.
If your artwork contains lots of blacks, dark browns, or other very dark colors, consider slightly increasing the brightness so important details remain visible in the finished jacket.
In the same way, very light shades can get lost in the conversion from digital to physical artwork. If you are relying on a very light beige, taupe, etc., don’t be surprised if it comes out closer to a true white.
Remember that you're not designing a website thumbnail.
Your artwork will become a physical object that someone can hold, display, and view from across a room.
Large, recognizable imagery and readable typography generally translate better than tiny details.
No!
You can create a sophisticated-looking custom vinyl record cover with relatively simple tools.
If you already have your artwork, photograph, or design, you can submit it directly according to the applicable artwork requirements. If you're creating a design from scratch, tools such as Canva or other basic design software can be enough for a simple album cover.
The most important thing is to make sure your final file is prepared correctly before you submit it.
At Freestyle Vinyl, we print exactly the artwork you provide rather than redesigning it for you. Submit your design exactly as you want it printed because text, graphics, and other elements are not added after submission.
Yes! In fact, that’s what most of our customers do.
Using your own photograph is one of the easiest ways to create a truly personalized vinyl record.
You can use a photograph as:
For a wedding, you might use a favorite engagement or wedding photograph. For a birthday, you might use a childhood photo. For an artist release, you might use band photography or original artwork.
The photograph doesn't need to be professionally produced. What matters most is starting with a sufficiently large, clear image and designing the finished artwork with the physical dimensions and bleed requirements in mind.
Although a custom record jacket can be one of the most visually distinctive parts of your record, you don't have to create your own artwork.
Depending on your order, you can choose among different jacket approaches.
Fully custom artwork
Upload your own front and back artwork and create a jacket that is completely personalized to your project.
Plain white jacket
A simple white jacket provides a clean starting point. It can also be left minimal or customized further with your own writing or artwork.
Preset designs
We also offer preset jacket designs for customers who want something more distinctive than a plain jacket without designing an entire album cover themselves.
The important thing is that customization doesn't have to mean complicated design.
Sometimes the best album cover is simply a great photograph and a meaningful title.
Here's something many people don't realize: you don't necessarily need to purchase a vinyl record to order a custom record jacket.
A standalone custom jacket can serve several purposes.
Create a display piece
Turn your artwork into a physical, album-sized piece of wall art.
Replace an existing jacket
If you have a record whose original jacket is damaged or simply doesn't fit the way you'd like to display it, a custom jacket can provide a personalized replacement.
Create a wedding sign-in display
A custom record jacket can also become a creative alternative to a traditional wedding guest book.
Create a personalized album cover featuring the couple's names and wedding date, then have guests sign the jacket with messages for the newlyweds.
After the wedding, the jacket becomes a piece of décor and a physical reminder of the people who celebrated with you.
Create event or display artwork
A custom jacket can also be used as a standalone piece for parties, events, installations, or other creative projects.

Artwork can make a custom vinyl record especially meaningful when the record is intended as a gift.
The visual design can communicate the relationship or memory behind the music before the recipient even puts the record on a turntable.
For example:
The result is more than a vinyl album. The artwork, music, and physical record become parts of the same personalized keepsake.
Yes. You can create your own custom album artwork using your own photographs, graphics, text, illustrations, or other design elements and submit the finished file for your custom jacket.
Yes. Your own photographs can be used as custom jacket artwork, and appropriate artwork can also be used for custom center labels or 10-inch picture-disc artwork.
Yes. Custom center labels are available for 12-inch and 7-inch records. The center label is 3.5 inches in diameter.
Yes. When creating a custom jacket, you can provide your own artwork for the jacket rather than relying on the standard back-jacket design. For a gatefold jacket, there is also an “inner” portion that is fully customizable as well.
No. A 10-inch picture disc uses artwork across the record rather than a separate center label.
The exact requirements depend on the product and artwork being created. Freestyle Vinyl's current jacket requirements call for images at least 1,000 pixels tall and wide, with 3,000 pixels recommended for maximum clarity. Important text and graphics should remain at least 1/4 inch from the edge.
No. Freestyle Vinyl prints the artwork you submit rather than designing it for you. This ensures that you receive exactly what what you want, how you want it, with no confusion over font size or type, cropping, etc.
Yes. A custom jacket can be purchased separately, making it useful as a display piece, replacement jacket, wedding sign-in, or other standalone artwork.
Your custom vinyl record should look as personal as it sounds.
Whether you're creating an album from your own music, turning a favorite playlist into a physical record, making a wedding keepsake, preserving family memories, or designing a one-of-a-kind piece of album art, the artwork gives the finished record its visual identity.
Start with a photograph, create an album-style design from scratch, build a collage of meaningful memories, or keep things simple with typography and a single powerful image.
Then choose the format that fits your project:
The goal isn't to make your artwork look like someone else's album.
It's to make it look like yours.
For decades, vinyl records have held a special place in the hearts of music collectors. The tactile experience of handling a record, the richness of analog sound, and the visual appeal of album art make vinyl more than just a medium for music—it’s a cultural icon. In recent years, a new trend has taken the vinyl world by storm: custom vinyl records.
Unlike mass-produced albums, custom vinyl records offer a deeply personal and unique way for collectors to connect with music. Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind custom vinyl album or a personalized record album featuring tracks handpicked by the collector, these bespoke records are quickly becoming a must-have for vinyl enthusiasts.
This article explores why music collectors are gravitating toward custom vinyl records, the broader appeal of music collecting, and the role of companies like Freestyle Vinyl in revolutionizing the art of personalized records.
Music collecting is more than a hobby—it’s a passion that allows enthusiasts to curate a tangible connection to the art they love. Collectors are drawn to the thrill of discovering rare records, the nostalgia of owning physical media, and the satisfaction of building a collection that reflects their unique tastes.
Music collecting can take many forms:
Vinyl holds a special allure for collectors, offering a unique combination of sound quality, nostalgia, and artistry. The analog nature of records captures a warmth and depth of sound that digital formats often lack. Additionally, the large-format album art provides a canvas for creative expression, turning every record into a piece of visual art.
For collectors, vinyl is more than just a way to listen to music—it’s a way to celebrate it. The act of flipping through crates, discovering hidden gems, and spinning a record on a turntable creates a ritual that deepens their connection to the music.
Custom Vinyl Records
While collecting mass-produced albums is a thrill, custom vinyl records take the experience to an entirely new level. These one-of-a-kind creations allow collectors to design a record that reflects their personal tastes and memories.
Here’s why custom vinyl records are capturing the imagination of music collectors:
Creating a custom vinyl record is easier than ever, thanks to modern technology and companies specializing in bespoke records. Collectors simply provide the desired tracks, upload artwork, and work with the company to finalize the design. The result is a high-quality vinyl record that’s as unique as the person who created it.

Whether you’re creating a custom vinyl album to commemorate a special moment or designing a personalized record album to reflect your style, the process is as rewarding as the finished product. With companies like Freestyle Vinyl leading the charge, it’s never been easier to turn your vision into reality.
For music collectors who love vinyl, custom records are more than a trend—they’re the next chapter in a lifelong love affair with music. So why not create your own custom vinyl record today and add something truly unique to your collection?
The 7-inch vinyl record is one of the coolest audio formats that you can acquire. Smaller than the traditional 12-inch LP, the 7-inch record became closely associated with the single: one song on the A-side and another on the B-side, typically played at 45 revolutions per minute.
While the 12-inch LP became the standard format for full albums, the 7-inch single serves a different purpose. Its compact size and relatively short playing time makes it ideal for individual songs, promotional releases, jukeboxes, DJs, and special edition releases.
The format remains popular today even after decades of changes in physical media. A 7-inch record is small, simple, and focused. And with modern custom 7-inch vinyl, you can create a one-off or personalized version of the classic single using your own audio and artwork.
This guide explains what 7-inch vinyl records are, how they work, how much music they hold, what they're used for, and how they compare with larger vinyl formats.
A 7-inch vinyl record is a small-format vinyl record measuring approximately seven inches in diameter.
The format is most commonly associated with the 45 RPM record, because 7-inch singles have historically been manufactured to play at 45 revolutions per minute.
Unlike a 12-inch LP, which is designed to accommodate substantially more music, a 7-inch record is generally intended for shorter recordings. A traditional 7-inch single might contain one song on each side, although the actual amount of audio depends on the recording, cutting specifications, and desired sound quality.
The two sides are traditionally referred to as:
This simple format helped make the 7-inch single one of the defining physical formats of popular music.
The term “45” refers to the record's playback speed: 45 revolutions per minute (RPM).
The format became widely associated with 45 RPM singles after the introduction of commercially successful 7-inch 45 RPM records in the late 1940s.
That combination—7 inches and 45 RPM—became so closely associated with the single that people often use “7-inch,” “45,” and “single” interchangeably, even though those terms technically describe different characteristics of the record.
A 7-inch describes the physical size.
45 RPM describes the playback speed.
A single describes the type of release or musical presentation.
One of the most important limitations of a 7-inch record is its relatively short playing time.
For Freestyle Vinyl's custom 7-inch records, the current capacity is up to six minutes of audio per side. For a two-sided record, that is a maximum total of 12minutes of audio.
If your project contains a full album or a long playlist, a 7-inch record probably isn't the appropriate format. That's where a 12-inch custom vinyl record—or potentially a multi-record set—becomes more useful.
There isn't a fixed number of songs that fits on every 7-inch record. The determining factor is the total length of the audio, rather than simply the number of tracks.
For example:
For Freestyle Vinyl's custom 7-inch records, the practical limit is up to six minutes per side.
That's why the format works particularly well for a single song, short playlists, a series of voice messages, first-dance songs, short spoken-word projects or special recordings.
If you're trying to fit an entire album onto one record, a 12-inch LP is generally a more appropriate choice.
The 7-inch format has always been particularly well suited to short-form releases.
The classic application is the single: one featured song on Side A and another recording on Side B.
This makes the format particularly appealing to musicians who want a physical version of an individual release without producing an entire LP.
7-inch records can also be useful for DJs, particularly when the project involves a specific song, edit, or short collection of tracks.
The compact format is easy to handle and has a long history within DJ culture.
A 7-inch record can turn a single meaningful song into a physical keepsake.
For example, someone might create a record featuring:
The relatively small size makes the finished record feel more like a special edition single than a traditional full album.
A 7-inch vinyl record can also work particularly well for events where only a small amount of audio is needed.
A couple might create a record containing their first-dance song, while an event organizer could create a short commemorative recording or personalized keepsake.
Independent artists can use the format to create a physical version of a single without committing to a full album-length project.
A 7-inch record can function as a physical release, collectible, promotional item, or limited-edition version of a song.
The two formats serve fundamentally different purposes.

A useful rule of thumb is:
Choose 7-inch vinyl when the music is short and focused.
Choose 12-inch vinyl when you want a full album or longer listening experience.
The 10-inch format sits between the two in physical size, but the available formats can serve quite different purposes.
At Freestyle Vinyl, our 10-inch picture disc records are perfect for your artwork to become an even more prominent part of the project, while the 7-inch is still perfect as a project for singles and special releases.
In simple terms:
7-inch: compact, single-focused format.
10-inch picture disc: short-format record with an emphasis on visual presentation.
12-inch: traditional LP format for longer albums and playlists.
If you're primarily interested in the physical presentation of an image, the 10-inch picture disc offers something the conventional 7-inch record does not.
Part of the appeal of the 7-inch record is its simplicity.
A 12-inch LP can feel like a complete album experience: multiple tracks, large artwork, liner notes, and a substantial physical package.
A 7-inch record is more focused.
It can represent one song, one moment, or one idea.
That makes the format particularly appealing to collectors and music fans who appreciate physical media but don't necessarily need an entire album.
The format also carries significant cultural history. For decades, 7-inch singles were a primary way that popular songs were released and distributed, and the format remains strongly associated with the history of recorded music.
A custom 7-inch vinyl record takes the traditional single format and allows you to choose the audio and, depending on the product, customize elements of the physical presentation.
Instead of purchasing an existing commercial single, you can create a record around your own project.
That might mean:
Freestyle Vinyl currently offers custom 7-inch records with up to six minutes of audio per side, optional Side B, several vinyl color choices, and either a blank white jacket or custom artwork.
Explore the 7-inch record options: Custom 7-Inch Vinyl Records
The physical size may be compact, but there are still several ways to personalize a custom 7-inch record.
You choose the audio that goes onto the record, subject to the format's playing-time limitations and applicable rights.
Depending on the product, you can select from available vinyl colors, like black, clear, red, and white.
You can choose a blank white jacket or provide your own artwork for a custom jacket.
The center label provides another opportunity to personalize the appearance of a 7-inch record.
A custom label might include an artist name, title, photograph, logo, date, or other artwork.
The result can feel much more like a genuine single release than simply putting a digital recording onto a physical disc.
A traditional 45 is a commercially manufactured single containing music selected by the record label or artist.
A custom 7-inch record is created around your own project.
The physical format may look familiar, but the purpose is different.
A traditional 45 might feature a commercially released song from an established artist.
A custom 7-inch might contain your own recording, a meaningful song, a personalized project, or a short collection of audio created specifically for you.
That's part of what makes the format interesting today: the classic physical format can be used for projects that would never have existed as commercial singles.
If you're deciding which custom vinyl format to use, start with the amount of audio you want to preserve.
Choose a 7-inch if:
Choose a 10-inch picture disc if:
Choose a 12-inch record if:
The goal isn't simply to choose the largest record available. It's to match the format to the amount of music and type of project you're creating.
A 7-inch vinyl record is approximately seven inches in diameter. The term describes the physical size of the record, rather than its playback speed.
The 7-inch single is commonly associated with 45 RPM, which is why 7-inch records are often called “45s.”
Playing time varies, but at Freestyle Vinyl, 7-inch records can hold up to six minutes per side.
It depends on the length of your songs! A 7-inch record can hold one longer song or multiple shorter recordings, provided the total audio fits within the available playing time.
Yes! Custom vinyl services allow you to create a 7-inch record around your own audio and personalize available options such as vinyl color and jacket artwork.
Usually not. The limited playing time makes the 7-inch format better suited to singles and shorter projects. A 12-inch LP offers substantially more playing time and is generally better suited to a full album.
Yes. New 7-inch records continue to be produced, including custom and independent releases.
The 7-inch record may be smaller than an LP, but its purpose has always been distinct.
It is a format built around the single: a favorite song, a new release, a meaningful recording, or a small collection of music that deserves to exist as something physical.
That makes it particularly well suited to modern custom vinyl projects. You don't need an entire album to create something worth putting on vinyl. Sometimes one song is enough.
Whether you're creating an independent single, commemorating a special moment, making a personalized music gift, or simply bringing a favorite piece of audio into the physical world, a 7-inch record offers a compact way to make it tangible.
If your project is short enough to fit the format, a custom 7-inch record can turn that music into a physical single that you can play, display, collect, or give to someone else.
Ready to explore the format?
In the ever-evolving world of music, DJs constantly seek new ways to stand out and make their sets unforgettable. While many DJs rely on digital tools for convenience and versatility, some are turning back to the roots of the craft—vinyl. Specifically, vinyl has become a powerful tool for DJs aiming to create a unique and memorable performance.
The tactile experience of spinning records on turntables, the nostalgic crackle of analog sound, and the visual appeal of a DJ flipping through vinyl during a set all add an extra layer of artistry to a performance. With the emergence of customized vinyl records, DJs now have an even greater opportunity to elevate their sets, combining the timeless appeal of vinyl with the ability to curate personalized playlists.
If you’re a DJ looking to take your craft to the next level, custom vinyl records offer an innovative way to redefine your performances. From creating bespoke tracklists to showcasing your personal style, personalized DJ records are the ultimate game-changer.
Not all custom vinyl for DJs is created for the same purpose. The right format depends on how you plan to use your record. Are you creating a playable copy of an exclusive remix for your next set? Do you want a visually striking piece that reinforces your personal brand? Are you producing a limited-edition release to sell at shows, or are you creating a personalized DJ record as a gift?
Different record sizes offer different advantages in terms of playing time, portability, artwork, and presentation. While many DJs gravitate toward 12-inch custom vinyl records because of their larger format and extended playback capacity, custom DJ vinyl can be produced in several formats to support different creative goals.
The comparison below will help you determine which option best matches your performance style, branding strategy, and music.
| Format | Best use |
|---|---|
| 7-inch | Singles and edits |
| 10-inch picture disc | Branding and visual impact |
| 12-inch | Club sets and extended mixes |
| Double LP | Long-form mixes and compilations |
Modern DJs have a wealth of tools at their disposal, ranging from turntables to sophisticated digital software. Each method has its strengths, but the choice often comes down to the artist’s style, goals, and audience. Let’s compare these approaches and explore why DJ vinyl remains a compelling choice.
Digital DJing has revolutionized the music scene, offering unparalleled convenience and flexibility. With digital controllers, laptops, and DJ software, artists can:
While digital DJing is efficient, its accessibility means many DJs use similar tools, leading to a crowded market where it can be challenging to stand out.
Turntable DJing, on the other hand, offers a tactile, hands-on approach to music. Spinning records requires skill, timing, and artistry, which can set DJs apart in an era dominated by digital tools. Using DJ vinyl records adds a unique visual and auditory element to performances, creating a deeper connection with the audience.
Benefits of using vinyl include:
While vinyl can be heavier to transport and less versatile than digital setups, its ability to evoke nostalgia and captivate an audience makes it a powerful tool for DJs aiming to stand out.
As a DJ, your setlist is your signature, and the ability to create a 12-inch custom vinyl record with handpicked tracks takes personalization to the next level. A customized vinyl record can feature songs from multiple artists, genres, and styles, giving you complete control over your sound.
When considering custom vinyl, it’s essential to understand the difference between embossed and diamond-cut records:
For DJs looking to integrate custom records into their sets, diamond-cut vinyl is the way to go. It provides the flexibility and resilience needed to execute dynamic performances.
When it comes to creating custom records for DJs, Freestyle Vinyl stands out as a leader in the industry. Specializing in high-quality customized vinyl records, Freestyle Vinyl ensures that every record is diamond-cut for durability and professional-grade sound quality.
By choosing Freestyle Vinyl, DJs can access premium-quality custom records that enhance their performances and elevate their presence in the music scene.

Vinyl records have made an impressive resurgence in the music world, and with this comeback, many music enthusiasts and artists are interested in exploring the idea of pressing their own vinyl. Whether you want to create a custom vinyl for personal use, as a release for your band, or even as gifts for vinyl record lovers, one of the most common questions that arises is: How many songs can you put on a vinyl record?
The answer, as it turns out, is not so much about the number of songs, but rather about the total length of audio you can fit on a vinyl record. This depends on the size of the record and its revolutions per minute (RPM). In this article, we will break down everything you need to know about vinyl records, including how much music you can press onto different sizes and formats. We’ll also delve into lathe-cut records and why Freestyle Vinyl is a go-to option for custom vinyl.
What is a Vinyl Record?
A vinyl record is a physical analog medium used to store audio. The sound is encoded in a continuous spiral groove etched into the surface of the vinyl. When a turntable’s stylus moves along the groove, it reads the vibrations and reproduces the recorded sound. Vinyl records have existed since the early 20th century and have seen several format changes over the decades, primarily concerning their size and speed (RPM).
While streaming and digital music have become the dominant ways people consume music today, vinyl offers a tangible, warm, and rich sound experience that digital formats often can’t replicate. For both collectors and casual listeners, vinyl records provide a unique listening experience, blending nostalgia with high-fidelity sound.
How Many Songs Can You Put on a Vinyl Record?
When asking how many songs can fit on a vinyl record, it’s important to understand that the physical capacity of a vinyl record is determined by the total playtime of the audio rather than the number of individual tracks. Each song has a different duration, so how many songs can fit on a vinyl record depends entirely on their length.
Additionally, several factors influence how much music can be packed onto a vinyl record:
With that in mind, let’s explore the typical audio capacity for different vinyl sizes.
Typical Audio Length Limits for Vinyl Records
7” Record
A 7-inch record, also known as a 45 or 7" single, is one of the most iconic vinyl formats. These records generally spin at 45 RPM and are most commonly used for singles, often featuring one track on each side.
10” Record
A 10-inch record is slightly less common but still widely used, especially for EPs or short albums. These records can spin at either 33 1/3 or 45 RPM, offering some flexibility in terms of playtime.
12” Record
The 12-inch record is the format used for full-length albums, often referred to as LPs (long play). Most 12” records are played at 33 1/3 RPM, though some are pressed at 45 RPM for improved sound quality.
Lathe-Cut Records at Freestyle Vinyl
If you’re looking to make your own record, especially as a unique gift or limited-run project, lathe-cut records provide an excellent option. Lathe-cutting is a process where each record is cut individually in real time, as opposed to traditional vinyl pressing which uses stampers for mass production. This method allows for smaller batches of records and a higher degree of customization.
Freestyle Vinyl is an industry leader when it comes to producing custom lathe-cut records. For artists, music enthusiasts, or those wanting to create a special gift for vinyl record lovers, Freestyle Vinyl offers a flexible and personalized solution. Their lathe-cut records are made with precision, and they provide up to 22 minutes of audio per side on a 12” LP. This capacity matches the standard for mass-produced 12" records, making Freestyle Vinyl an excellent choice for those looking to create high-quality custom records without the need for large production runs.
Freestyle Vinyl also allows customers to make their own record by uploading their chosen audio files and even custom artwork for the album sleeve and labels. This flexibility makes it easy for independent musicians, hobbyists, or collectors to craft a truly personal and unique vinyl record.
Conclusion
When considering how many songs you can fit on a vinyl record, it’s important to focus on the total audio playtime rather than the number of tracks. The size of the record and the RPM at which it spins will determine how much music you can fit onto each side.
